Gunmen kill DSP, injure two other policemen

Mr. Alu Fidelis, the Officer-in-Charge of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Calabar, Cross River State, was on Wednesday killed by suspected armed robbers.

It was learnt that the robbers opened fire on a Toyota Hilux conveying Fidelis and his team along Aka Road, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Two other policemen in the vehicle were seriously injured.

Our correspondent learnt that the policemen were advancing towards Ecobank when they were attacked.

Earlier, a senior employee of the bank, who preferred anonymity, had told our correspondent that the bandits also shot at the bank’s Toyota Hilux van thrice, but none of the occupants was injured.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, Mr. Etim Dickson, confirmed the incident.
He said, “A deputy superintendent of police who was in the pick-up van was killed in the attack. He was my course-mate.

“The other two policemen are responding to treatment at the hospital. We will get to the root of the matter soon.”
